Ohio’s Gateway
The riverfront tells a story of arrivals, freight and the people who shaped the pottery city.

A gateway along the river
The Ohio Historical Marker at Broadway Wharf describes Fawcettstown, later East Liverpool, as an early landing place for river travelers. It recalls canoes, flatboats and steamboats carrying people and freight along the Ohio. The river was a working connection between communities long before it became the backdrop to a visitor’s photograph.
People and pottery moved together
Farm goods and ceramics left through the wharf, while incoming craftspeople helped build the local pottery industry. Read this story beside the Pottery Capital marker to connect transportation with the making of goods. The riverfront offers a place to look outward from downtown and consider how work and settlement depended on movement along the water.
