The house behind the civic site

The Rotary marker identifies this as the former site of John N. Taylor’s three-story Victorian mansion. Taylor was associated with Knowles, Taylor & Knowles, one of the pottery companies central to East Liverpool’s industrial story. The marker recalls a residential landmark that no longer occupies the site.

A city changes its buildings

The marker explains that the mansion was demolished for the new City Hall. That change connects private industrial wealth with the civic landscape visitors encounter today. Compare this lost residence with the surviving Historic Thompson House, then explore the company profiles in Inside Crockery City. View the marker from public access areas and check posted rules before entering civic buildings.

Before you go

  • The photograph records the marker at its capture date; confirm present access and condition before a special trip.
  • Use public sidewalks or permitted park paths, and follow posted access rules.
