Theaters of the Diamond

Downtown East Liverpool once supported a surprisingly rich theater culture—vaudeville, movies, touring performers and civic events all played within a few blocks.

Ceramic Theater

Opened in 1904 with seating for roughly 1,200, it hosted first-run plays, star performers, graduations and movies before being razed in 1961.

Diamond Theater

A former church became the Bijou and later Diamond Theater, featuring vaudeville and short films before closing in 1920.

State Theater

Opened in 1914 as the McKinley Vaudeville Theater, later became the Strand and then the State Theater before closing in 1970.
